Event Details

Hamiora Renata is a proud descendant of the Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Pōrou, Ngāti Raukawa and Te Whakatōhea tribes, however, was born and raised in Kirikiriroa – Hamilton. His upbringing was strongly established around the foundations of Te Ao Māori, Tikanga Māori, Te Reo Māori and most of all Toi Māori.
As Hamiora grew older, he found himself experimenting with different media other than pen and paper such as painting, relief work, sculpting, and digital programmes to create new art work. Through all the experimenting, Hamiora found himself developing the passion for traditional Māori painting (kōwhaiwhai, waituhi) and the aspects of colour, composition and line work.
Hamiora is currently in his final year, studying a Bachelor of Visual Arts at Toihoukura – EIT he wishes to acknowledge his tutors for the many teachings that have now shaped him into the artist he is today. Hamiora’s focus is to grasp the cultural aspect of ‘Mana Motuhake’ through the lens of a rangatahi Māori.
