Introducing the Far Out! Film nights at the Dome. Last Tuesday of the month.
Hand-picked classic films that have stood the test of time. Left of centre, out on the fringe, always with substance and never boring. Many films may be unknown to some of our viewers, yet we hope you will come for an experience. Expect the unexpected!
You have never heard of this film because no one has but TRUST us when we say this will be one of the best films we have ever shown. You will laugh and you might even cry.
A bizarre yet soulful documentary about a young man named GUISEPPE ANDREWS who lives in a trailer park in Southern California and to date has made 30 low budget films on his home video camera. The “stars” of his films are his down and out, alcoholic, and often mentally ill neighbours at the trailer park. The scenarios captured in this remarkable documentary are the kind of things you could never make up. The blind lead the blind as this rag-tag crew stumbles through the process of film-making.
By the end we are given a portrait of a strange yet genuine family of outcasts who are lucky to have found each other in a world that can be so very cruel. An absolute must see for any FAR OUT! regular.
100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Giuseppe Makes a Movie (2014) by Adam Rifkin:
DIY filmmaker, musician, and one-time teen actor Giuseppe Andrews has made over thirty experimental features. Set in some demented alternate universe, they are populated by real-life alcoholics and drug addicts, trash-talking senior citizens and residents of his trailer-park community dressed in cow outfits and costume-shop wigs, acting out booze-fueled vignettes of severe psychosis filtered through Giuseppe’s John Waters–meets–Harmony Korine–meets–Werner Herzog sensibility. Director Adam Rifkin creates a wildly surreal, outrageously funny, and strangely touching portrait of a true outsider artist as he follows Giuseppe and his ragtag troupe on the production of his latest two-day opus, GARBANZO GAS, capturing the compassion and camaraderie that binds this misfit community together.
