09jan3:00 pm5:00 pmA Skull in Connemara - Auditions @ Unity Theatre

Event Details

Unity Theatre’s first production of the year is a play in delightfully poor taste but just as hilarious as others written by acclaimed Irish playwright, Martin McDonagh.  His name might not mean much to you, but his scripts for roaringly successful movies are certain to have entertained you.  He is the wit behind In Bruges and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Norman Maclean who is directing A Skull in Connemara needs to find four accomplished performers to take on the following roles and bring to life this riotous black comedy set in rural Galway.  It doesn’t just make fun of bucolic Irish life but gets inside the heads and hearts of all four characters and through them, the audience.
Mary Rafferty is a shrewd elderly boozer who can cunningly manipulate her two grandsons, Mairtin and Thomas Hanlon.
Mairtin Hanlon is a slightly thick adolescent or young man who is employed by Mick Dowid. Mick Dowd – leading character; a grave digger with a nice little side-line in grave robbing who is locally suspected of having murdered his wife.
Thomas Hanlon (Mairtin’s older brother) is the local cop who would like to crack a real case… Between Mick and Thomas, there is plenty to challenge the limited perceptions of Mairtin and make him the butt of endless jokes, but it is he who gets to enjoy what transpires when dark and illegal matters come to light.
So if skull-duggery appeals, and you want to be part of a highly entertaining production, Unity’s committee will be delighted to see you at auditions.
