Following his recent sell out ‘Worth the Weight’ tour and mammoth 8-month ‘Holding onto Hope’ tour across his homeland of Australia, alt blues/soul singer-songwriter and troubadour Shaun Kirk is happy to announce he’s bringing the ‘Holding Onto Hope’ tour across the ditch to New Zealand this February.
Inspired by the tumultuous events of 2020, his latest single ‘Holding Onto Hope’ dropped on Thursday 8th July last year, marking the 12-month anniversary of the commencement of Shaun’s home city’s (Melbourne, Australia) infamous 112 day lockdown; a time he describes as “one of the most confronting and challenging times of my life.” The tune has since been capturing hearts all across the globe with its message of aspiration and optimism in a world that has felt absent of it in recent times.
Kirk’s highly entertaining world class live show, which features the talented multi-instrumentalist on vocals, guitar, drums and harmonica, was recently described by 3 time Grammy Award Winner Fantastic Negrito as “One of the best one man shows I’ve ever seen!” and is not to be missed by any keen music enthusiast.

Award-winning guitarist Joel Fafard performs Southern roots and blues classics with the soul of a purist and the showmanship of a seasoned entertainer.
He sings with the sexy, sandpapered-sounding vocal style of the new-generation bluesman. He tells his hilarious between-song stories with the confidence of a late show host delivering his monologue. And when he lets rip a solo on his resonator guitar, it’s easy to hear how he once earned both a Juno nomination and a Western Canadian Music Award for his skills on the axe.
With his latest albums, Cluck Old Hen and Borrowed Horses, along with his live show, Fafard is using his uncommon skill as an entertainer to embark on a new musical mission: breathing new life into grand old numbers like “Ain’t no grave,” “Sitting on top of the World,” “Spoonful,” and “Long Black Veil.”

Jennifer Ward-Lealand directs Cassandra Woodhouse in the acclaimed one woman play, Hanna, by Sam Potter.
Being a young mum is supposed to be hard – but for Hanna, the only thing she’s ever been brilliant at is raising her beloved daughter, Ellie. But then a DNA test reveals staggering news: Ellie is not Hanna’s child – and now her ‘real’ parents want to meet.
Is Hanna obliged to let these strangers into her daughter’s life? And how do you explain a mix-up in an overstretched maternity ward to a three-year old? Forced to question what being a parent really means, she makes a drastic decision that will change all their lives.
Sam Potter’s funny, heartfelt and compelling one-woman play, Hanna delicately weaves in questions of racial identity, economic privilege, and the lottery of birth – and asks: what does “family” actually mean in today’s society?
Premiering in London in 2018, and proudly presented by NZ Theatre Company in its Auckland premiere, Hanna will be the first for the company, whose aim is to bring professional productions into community theatre spaces.

Showcasing our 2023 collection that has everything a cycling-centric audience could want – action, drama, humour, and plenty of inspiration; the evening is going to be unashamedly, and utterly, utterly, utterly aimed at the two-wheel devotee!
This year’s treasure chest of films includes a delightful young Australian bikepackers learnings from her adventure- completing a scenic trip to Hell; a visually commanding film set in postcard Tuscany following a 74-year old bicicletta rider whose spirit personifies cycling; a team who have spent five years of embarking on a dream…and only one way to get it – via packraft and mountain bike, on a pursuit of a first descent on the gnarly lines of Dillon Cone in the rugged coastal Kaikoura ranges of New Zealand; two schools share their insights into how they promote active transport within their school community; the tale of a rider with a searing thirst for adventure, exploring interior Iceland; putting the ‘mountain’ into mountain biking – a Scottish highlands rider’s eyes are opened to the healing power of the bicycle; an uplifting film that celebrates a humble volunteer whose community spirit is inspiring and so are the majestic winter views of the trail where he lives in rural heartland Central Otago; a moving movie that follows a family that chooses to live life to the fullest in the face of adversity; and rounding out the night, find out what happens when you combine an ultra-distance 320 km gravel race and parenting together over a 24-hour period (which is tougher?); ALL in the mix!
These short films are a great reminder of why we love to ride our bikes with films that celebrate the fun, adventure, and inspiration that cycling enables, whatever your ride is.
THE BIG BIKE FILM NIGHT is exempt from classification, but the films are suitable for the entire family, (AND includes two super awesome films on bike families) and would obtain PG ratings.
